WordPress offers feed stats

April 21, 2006

If you blog with WordPress you've noticed a new report that breaks out the number of readers viewing your news feed. I like this report for a couple reasons: it demonstrates that my blog is reaching far more people than actually visit the site (they subscribe to my RSS feed in their aggregator and read the posts there) and it shows what kind of feed readers people are using.

Here's the feed traffic count. . . . last 30 days

Cymfony: A rich resource

February 8, 2006

Backbone’s Blog Survey pointed me to Cymfony, a company that aggregates and analyzes content from 200,000 traditional media sources and millions of consumer-generated media messages. Its resource-rich site will interest anyone who wants to learn more about blogs, consumer-generated media, PR measurement, and Web 2.0. I’ll be spending quite a lot of time enjoyng this material.

For anyone who wants to better measure the effectiveness of their PR programs I recommend the work of KD Paine. She describes herself as “a serial entrepreneur specializing in measuring the effectiveness of marketing programs.” Her PR Measurement blog is respected by business communicators worldwide.

Measure your site traffic

January 24, 2006

Many thanks to the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) for pointing to this blog yesterday in its weekly newsletter, NSPRA This Week. That single mention brought lots of visitors to this blog — easily ten times the normal daily amount. Look at that spike on the chart. And the map shows me where the visitors came from. That kind of information is fun to know, and it is useful to know. Measuring results is something all education PR people do. Right?

My tool for measuring blog traffic is Site Meter. It’s free, and generates lots of useful reports that I can take back to my team.
