A rich article about the use of web tags and social bookmarks, applied to education, at WWWTools for Education. Graeme Daniel has put together a helpful set of definitions, overviews, and resources about folksonomies and social bookmarking, where users assign multiple keywords, or tags, to online resources. The tags can then be identified in sets. Tags help search for sets of similar resources and provide another way to organise information and order search results. For example, the University of Pennsylvania library’s PennTags allow users to tag and annotate library catalog records and websites. The result supplements the content of the library collection and enhances its usability.
